How to Make Resin Snowflake Ornament

Christmas is around the corner and everybody is gearing up to decorate their homes and collect presents for their loved ones. During this season of festivities, if you are still scratching your head and wondering what you can do to stand out from the rest, you might want to take a look at how you can make mesmerizing Christmas snowflakes out of resin.

This is not only a unique idea for your home decorations and presents but also a fun way of spending your time inside your cozy place with your family.

Supplies Needed

  • Snowflake Silicone Mold
  • Epoxy Resin and Hardener
  • Chunky Iridescent Glitter
  • Epoxy Mixing Stick
  • Small Plastic Cup with Thin Spout
  • Gloves

Step-by-step Instructions

1) Prepare the Base of the Mold

To start with this Christmas snowflake project, you first need to prepare the base of your mold. For this purpose, start with a clean snowflake silicone mold.

Take some epoxy resin mixture combined with chunky iridescent glitter and add it to the outer most needles of the snowflake.

To set the glitter mixture in the base, gently tap the mold against the surface you are working on. This will not only make space for your clear epoxy resin, that will act as the top layer, but also remove any air bubbles that were present initially.

2) Add the Top Layer

Now, pour the clear resin mixture on top to seal the base layer. Pour the mixture in the mold using a small plastic cup with thin spout to avoid creating any mess. As resin is self-leveling, the top layer will spread out evenly in the mold to create a smooth surface. Once you have filled the mold to the brim, leave it to dry for about twenty-four hours or overnight.

3) Demold the Snowflake

Now that your snowflake has fully cured, you can carefully demold it. First, use your fingers to gently push the needles out of the mold one by one. This will help you avoid any damage to the thin petals attached with them.

Once the needles are out, you can safely push the core out of the mold as well.

After you have demolded your snowflake, you can now accessorize it with a beautiful ribbon to add to its beauty.

Heart-warming gifts are a beautiful tradition of Christmas. So, this winter season, gather your supplies and make mesmerizing handmade snowflakes out of resin and add a personal touch to them by using your favourite ribbons. Now, you can give these snowflakes to your friends and family or decorate your own home!
